What is palme viper?

The palme viper, also known as the Gaboon viper or forest puff adder, is a species of venomous snake found in the rainforests of Central and West Africa. It is one of the largest vipers in Africa, growing up to 6 feet in length and weighing up to 18 pounds.

The palme viper's body is thick and heavy, with a large triangular head and distinctive horn-like scales above its eyes. Its coloration is highly variable, ranging from shades of brown to grey, with intricate patterns of dark brown or black zigzag lines and spots on its back.

This snake is a skilled ambush predator, relying on its impressive camouflage to blend in with its surroundings and strike at unsuspecting prey. Its venom is highly toxic and can cause severe pain, swelling, and tissue damage in humans.

Despite its dangerous reputation, the palme viper is a fascinating and important species in its ecosystem, helping to control rodent and small mammal populations in the rainforest. However, habitat destruction and human activity pose a threat to the survival of this magnificent snake.
